When we first bought a field camera to check out what happens in the garden, we knew we would catch some interesting visitors. And I hoped one would be a snake. On and off around noontime in the summer I see a snake cruising the yard. My neighbor told me he sees field mice in the front of our house in the dark, under our loquat tree. A big snake attractor for sure.
I wanted to catch the snake on camera, in part to see if I can figure out if it is living on our property. That way, when I am trimming the Coontie Palms for example, I hopefully will not reach out and touch a snake!
A black racer has explored my garden tools when I leave the garage door open. Occasionally I see a snake racing along the black fence. So I had a feeling it would not take too long to catch a snake on camera.
Sure enough, caught one as you can see. But the interesting thing is this is the only time I caught a snake, in 6 months of video monitoring! And the snake just cruises past, doesn’t go in for the caterpillar hangout in that part of the garden.
Interesting indeed!
