I love these butterflies. Love. They do not come often. When this one showed up I ran out with my camera hoping to get a good shot. Just look at the markings. This huge Tiger Swallowtail stayed around for about an hour.

In our garden it feasted mostly on Jatropha. These butterflies are one of the largest you will see in the garden. They also like to stay high up. So you need a sun visor or dark sunglasses to really sit and look up at them soaring over you. When I think of our garden, this image comes to mind nearly every time. A simple moment, I am so grateful to have caught an image of so I can always remember and cherish it.

Here is more information from the US Forestry service on the Eastern Swallowtail in case you want to learn more.
